
GEOTECHNICAL FIELD TECHNICIAN
San Francisco Bay Area Geotechnical consulting firm Murray Engineers, Inc. has entry-level openings for Geotechnical Field Technicians to join both our San Rafael, CA and Los Altos, CA offices. Our Field Technicians serve key roles in the success of our projects, providing construction site observation and testing, and critical communication between our management staff, general contractors, and our clients. Prior experience in geotechnical construction observation/testing is beneficial, but entry-level candidates will be considered, and training provided.
Duties & Responsibilities

Primary duties will include field construction observations and preparation of daily field reports and testing data sheets.

Field compaction testing of soil and aggregate using moisture-density field equipment, noting compliance with ASTM and/or project specifications.

Observation of grading and foundation excavations.

Sampling of construction materials and various soil laboratory testing duties.

Logging and sampling of exploratory borings and field mapping.

Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites.

Calibrating field and laboratory equipment.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
-
College course work in science/math/engineering is a plus
-
Ideal candidates possess the ability to communicate effectively, with the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Must use a laptop computer to provide written documentation of test results and daily observations.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook computer applications

Self-motivated, dependable, with a strong work ethic.

Enjoy working outdoors.

Candidates must maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Reliable transportation (company field vehicle may be available for site visits)

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
